Leicester Train Station or Leicester Railway Station is located at Leicestershire, England, United Kingdom. It is serving the city of Leicester. The station was established by the Midland Counties Railway in the year 1840. Leicester Train Station is owned by Network Rail and operated by East Midlands Trains. History
The station was originally built by the Midland Counties Railway on 5th of May, 1840 and it was named as Leicester. The name was changed on 1st of June, 1867 to Leicester Campbell Street and it was again on 12th of June, 1892 that the name of the station was again changed to Leicester London Road. The rebuilding of the station was started in the year 1892. It took two years to re-build the station and thus the construction work completed in the year 1894. The architect appointed to re-build the station was Charles Turnshaw. It was on 4th of May 1840 that the first train arrived at the station. The train served the passengers from Nottingham and was operated with the help of Leopard steam engine.
