History
The history of Guitar Center was started in 1959 when Wayne Mitchell established The Organ Center in Hollywood, Los Angeles, California. In his early days, he was the retailer of an electronic keyboard used in churches. After five years, Wayne became the prominent seller of electric guitars and guitar amplifiers, marketed under Vox brand.
Due to this, in 1964, The Organ Center name was changed to The Vox Center. Guitar Center, Inc. become a publicly traded company in 1997 and launched its official website www.guitarcenter.com in 2006.
Products and Acquisitions
Guitar Center's products list includes all types of guitars, professional audio equipment for recording use, drums, mics, keyboards and many more. Guitar Center acquired various companies in the retailing career. First, acquisition was completed in 2000 when it purchased Musician's Friend for $50 million. Music & Arts was acquired in 2005 and Dennis Bamber, Inc. was purchased in February 2007.
