Gorenje is among the prominent manufacturers of home appliances across the Europe. The company came into existence in 1950 by the efforts of Ivan Atelsek in a village Gorenje. The company started its operation by manufacturing machinery and equipment used in the field of agriculture. Later on, with the passage of time, Gorenje entered into the business of manufacturing home appliances. The company sells its products under its own labels including Atag, Etna, Pelgrim, Mora, Korting, Gorenje and Sidex across the country.
In 1961, the company entered into the market of Germany by importing first two hundred cookers. Later on, the company came with its washing machines in 1964 by introducing two models PS 270 and PS 275. After two years, Gorenje, made improvement in its washing machines and few other washing machine models such as PS 603, PS 652, PS 653. In 1969, the expanded its business and started producing refrigerators.
With the coming of 2006, Gorenje set up its refrigerator and freezer plant in Valjevo, Serbia, and same year the formed its water heater and radiator plant in Stara Pazova, Serbia. The company has strong presence all over the Europe as company's products are sold in over seventy European countries. Moving to company's product range, the company makes kitchen appliances, bathroom furnishing material, agriculture, home appliances etc. Besides this, the company is listed in the top eight leading European companies. Moving toward the award and recognitions, Gorenje has been given Red Dot Design Award in 2005 and subsequently in 2006, it got Plus x Design Award.
